Another Great Local Find: Beauty Fix Detoxifying Charcoal Facial Scrub

Beauty Fix Detoxifying Charcoal Facial Scrub
Bought for: P129/170g
Bought from: SM Store online

I always think Beautyfix is somehow a dupe merk for the famous and well-loved St. Ives which I have been repurchasing non-stop and never run out of. While I was browsing online, I spotted Beauty Fix Charcoal Detoxifying Scrub and thought of getting one for myself because first, never tried any Beautyfix scrub before and secondly, I haven't tried a facial scrub infused with charcoal. Knowing charcoal, they are mostly used to control oil which is my biggest duduk perkara to date. There's always a first time in everything, I guess.

I wasn't able to find information about Beautyfix or the product itself but I know that this is a local brand. I also tried to find reviews about this particular product but to no avail. Well, if ever, I am honored to do the initial review hehe. Anyway, if you have been visiting Watsons regularly, shelves of Beautyfix are smack right in the middle of the hallways so it's impossible not to miss it. We might all be pretty aware of their Apricot Scrubs but never a day I drop by Watsons and spotted this charcoal scrub. Could it be a new release? I can only guess.

Claims
Beauty Fix Detoxifying Facial Scrub is specially formulated with activated charcoal that deeply penetrates into pores to draw out impurities and toxins. It contains natural exfoliants that gently unclogs pores by removing oil, dead skin cells and dirt for smoother, healthy-looking skin.
Packaging

Comes in a sleek black tube type of packaging, dispensing the product is quite easy as it does not settle on the bottom. It has all necessary information too like claims, direction for use, ingredients and caution. Judging from the ingredient list, I am glad that it does not contain any paraben.

Texture, Consistency and Ease of Application

The scrub has a rich, creamy consistency and comes in a gray-colored formula with a faint floral scent. Looking closely, it has orange and black granules which I presume are mixed apricot and charcoal powders. They aren't synthetic so it's safe to say that it's also eco-friendly. The formula reminds me of St. Ives', very creamy and blendable, also loaded with scrubs that buffs away skin's roughness to reveal a softer, clearer-looking skin. A little of it goes a long way so you don't need a lot every application. That makes it economical too! The scrubs are fine and non-abrasive but still textured to be intended for body use. Nevertheless, you still might want to be careful because too much exfoliation could lead to irritation.

Overall Performance

It is indeed a luxury to apply this product on the skin because of its soft, whipped-like texture. It also does not feel drying or irritating at all. I feel like the scrub works to give an instant massage on tired skin and the very nice scent calms the senses. It effectively soften the skin, clean the pores without me breaking out though I didn't notice any significant reduction in my sebum production even after three weeks of use (twice-thrice a week). Nonetheless, I would say that this product clarifies and brighten the skin after every use. Considering the price point, this product is definitely a steal! I am really looking for locally-produced products that are affordable, cruelty-free and effective and Beauty Fix Detoxifying Charcoal Facial Scrub is one to consider!

Have you heard of this product before? If not, do you think you'll get one for yourself? You might want to check at the nearest Watsons or buy it online at the SM Store. Let me know what you think in the comments down below!

Tough On Waterproof Makeup: Clinique Take The Day Off Makeup Remover

Clinique Take The Day Off Makeup Remover
Bought for: Present | SRP: $19 (Around P1000/125ml)

I love having mascaras and lip liquids that are long-wearing and waterproof but the pain and tugging to do afterwards stops me dead in tracks. I never thought that these old goodies from my mom's stash would be a holy grail for me. My mom do not wear heavy makeups nor obsessed with beauty products unlike her daughter to be honest. I wouldn't wonder why these deluxe sizes of makeup removers are untouched for a few months ever since my aunt overseas sent her these together with a few skincare items only I am interested in. Long story short, I decided to try one because my Loreal Voluminous Paradise Waterproof Mascara is such a pain to remove and all the other micellar waters I have just wouldn't work.

Claims (as per Clinique)
Skin Types: All. Our best-selling makeup remover. Totally tug-less formula whisks away makeup. Dissolves and "lifts away" long-wearing makeup, even waterproof mascara. Non-irritating, non-stinging. No parabens. No phthalates. No fragrance. Just happy skin.

Ingredients

Water\Aqua\Eau, Isohexadecane, Dimethicone, Cyclopentasiloxane, Trisiloxane, Peg-4 Dilaurate, Lauryl Methyl Gluceth-10 Hydroxypropyldimonium Chloride, Hexylene Glycol, Sodium Chloride, Potassium Phosphate, Dipotassium Phosphate, Dipotassium Edta, Phenoxyethanol

Packaging

Just like the one in full-size, Clinique Take The Day Off Makeup Remover comes in a sturdy purple plastic bottle that has this unusual direction to unscrew. Basically, you have to press the cap downwards and twist at the same time to open. I think its good too because the product is completely sealed and protected. If you travel a lot, these are good deluxe sizes to bring with.

Scent, Consistency and Ease of Application

I can barely detect any distinguishable scent. When you look closely, the formulation looks like liquid and oil--oil floating above the liquid so you have to shake every time you use it. You can expect that it has a thin oily texture but it's not bothersome at all especially you'll have to rinse it afterwards. If you have dry skin, this is better for you because it gives a good level of hydration to the skin. Applying it is quite easy because you just have to shake well and unscrew, apply a tiny bit to a cotton ball, swipe to areas and rinse with water.

Performance

By far, this is the only eye and lip makeup remover that easily removes waterproof mascara and lipsticks in a few swipes. Check out the demo! I applied a smudge-proof eyeliner, liquid lipstick, my toughest-removing mascara and waterproof brow product on the back of my arms, grab a cotton pad and swipe it gently on the swatches in one quick motion. See how it almost remove them without tugging and irritation. I basically use this to remove mascaras and liquid lipsticks at the end of the day and I don't have any problems with this product. It doesn't sting the eyes and does not make me accidentally pluck hairs from my lashes. I love how this product saves me time in removing all the long-wearing makeup I have on. It just works well with any type of makeup and would leave your skin clearer-looking and hydrated, no wonder why this is a best-selling from Clinique.

It may seem quite pricey given the suggested retail price of $19 for the full-size (non-inclusive of sales tax yet), but a little would definitely go a long way already! I wouldn't mind spending that amount if it means I get to save time removing my makeup without hurting my skin and causing damage. Eye and lip areas are sensitive and a little pressure could cause serious long-term damage on those parts so might as well take care of it with the gentlest product as possible.

Clinique Take The Day Off Makeup Remover just received a lot of praises from me and I definitely would highly recommend this to everyone!

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Complete Uv Waterlight Lotion Review

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Complete UV Waterlight Lotion
Bought for: P484
From: Johnson&Johnson online shop

I never ran out of sunscreen in my stash, I could have a lot but trust me, never a few. I even think this is the most important part of skincare that even during I went out at night time, I never forget to apply sunscreen because of harmful radiations from both natural and artificial light sources. My skin is already damaged with breakouts from hormonal imbalance and stress right now and I never want to put it in an even more dangerous state. Which is why, I recently ordered not just one but two Neutrogena sunscreens. Though I only got one (Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Complete UV Waterlight Lotion), it wasn't a complete disappointment anyway. I guess I just have to reorder the dry-touch variant.

Claims
Super lightweight sun protection lotion. Effectively blocks out harmful UVA/UVB rays and environmental aggressors with Helioplex; helps prevent pigmentation and skin darkening; formulated with Dry Touch Technology for an ultra-light, non-oily finish; dermatologist-tested, PABA-free, oil-free; perfect for  normal to oily skin.

Packaging

It comes with an accompanying box that displays all necessary information such as claims and benefits, ingredients, directions for use, caution and even the manufacturing and expiration dates. The bottle is quite slim, making it perfect to bring for quick getaways. It comes in white sturdy bottle with a twist cap and a bit touch of dandelion. Indeed, very clean and neat-looking. The bottle comes with a pointed nozzle that dispenses product in small quantity so you don't overdo it.

Texture, Consistency and Ease of Application

I already expected the product to have a very fluid consistency given that it's in a lotion formula. I even had a hard time taking a picture of the product of my skin because it slides off easily. I had a good first impression because I prefer lightweight and non-sticky sunscreen because they go well with my oily skin.

As you can see, it comes in a white color liquid that somehow creates a white cast on the skin once applied. It's not as pronounced though as you would think, more like an added brightness to dull skin.  Please do take note that the white cast from sunscreens depends on the amount that you are using. I initially thought it's probably because of the iron oxide and titanium dioxide (which are mainly found in sunscreen products) but I'm surprised neither of these two constitutes to the overall formulation. I am not good in analyzing ingredients and Science doesn't love me much so I'll stop right here hehe.

The good thing about this product though is that it gets absorb by the skin easily, doesn't feel sticky and has that dry-touch breakthrough I'm currently obsessing over with.

Performance

This product claims that it has the Helioplex technology I've only heard from Neutrogena which "represents a breadth of stabilized sunscreen technologies specifically engineered to deliver broad-spectrum, superior protection from UVA/UVB damage." I wouldn't want my sunscreen to have unstable ingredients that will easily oxidize when exposed to heat and light. I haven't noticed any darkening on my skin the past few weeks (no reason for that 'cause I rarely go out) but that doesn't mean I should compromise sunscreen application because aside from the sun, some artificial lights emit UV radiation too. Even if you are indoors, you can't say you are free to wear bare skin so I make sure to apply sunscreen whenever necessary. I am just glad that Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Complete UV Waterlight Lotion is very comfortable to wear alone or even under makeup. It's non-shiny finish yet hydrating formula surely captured me!

To be honest, I think I haven't tested this product enough yet during the afternoon and I only get brief exposure to the sun every now and then so I couldn't tell much about how tough the SPF content is. Using a sunblock with SPF 50 is more than enough though to ensure you are protecting your skin from UV rays the right way. I'm sure that it's a great sunscreen product to use on a daily basis to reduce the risk of you having damaged and darkened skin. There's nothing much of a change in my skin tone ever since I use this and I can tell because my skin can get both burned and lighten easily. I can also tell that this product is gentle enough as it didn't cause me any irritation or breakouts. This is definitely a highly-recommended sunscreen for oily-skinned girls!

I Applied For Sss Umid Card + Process And Requirements

Adulting is just crazy. You might not realize what photo I.D.s are for now, there will come a time when you have to transact alone and you may need a valid photo I.D. I specifically wanted to apply for a UMID (Unified Multipurpose I.D. Card) card for two main reasons: (1) It is a primary identification card here in the Philippines and (2) it never expires. A lot of you are probably aware but for the benefit of those who don't, this card is literally a unified single card that you can use for any SSS, PAG-IBIG, GSIS and Philhealth transactions.

So basically, here's what you need:

  1. UMID Application form which you may need to request at the branch upon arrival or you may also download online here.
  2. Bring one (1) primary valid I.D.--Passport, Driver’s License, PRC Card or Seaman’s Book (Seafarer’s Identification and Record Book. In the absence of these, bring any two (2) secondary I.D.s. For the list, you may click here.
  3. Black-inked ballpen

Here's what exactly tranpired:

  1.  I arrived there at least an hour before the end of the working hours. This might be a good thing to do because there are less people (or probably it's just on the branch where I applied) so I ended the process quickly.
  2. I got an application form from the information booth and a queue number. I filled out all necessary information in the waiting area.
  3. By the time the verification personnel called my queue number, I was done filling out the form and had prepared my two (2) valid I.D.s which is TIN and Philhealth Cards.
  4. Once approved, I then proceed to the I.D. Capturing booth and leave the form to the SSS personnel desk who will get your biometics, photo I.D and signature. They will call your name so be patient. This step took most of the time. Once done, they will provide you a sheet of paper regarding the success of your application and will then instruct you to wait for a time period as to how long you should wait for your UMID ID to be delivered.
  5. I got mine within 30 days and was supposed to activate it at any branches or kiosks.

To be honest, I never though applying for a UMID ID will be this quick and easy. I am glad that the staff on the branch I went to were all friendly and accommodating. Do let me know if you have questions!

Barely Took Me An Hour To Apply For A Philippine Passport

I have always wanted to apply for a passport as my primary valid I.D. since I was in college but because getting an appointment was almost impossible, it took me more than a year before I can secure one. I even had to list and give all my information to my boyfriend overseas because I'm sure you're all aware that we have the worst internet connection. But one day I got lucky and I was scheduled at 10:00 AM, June 19, 2018 at DFA, SM Manila. SM Manila was the most convenient branch for me because I know how to commute from where I live and I considered that my second home when I was still studying in Intramuros. Talking about it made me reminisce how we always drop by the mall after school. :D

Going back to what transpired during my passport application...here are the items you need to ensure hassle-free application.

  1. Appointment Notice/E-mail Confirmation. After you successfully reserved a slot, you will be receiving a letter on your e-mail containing the reference number, appointment schedule, reminders, etc.
  2. Accomplished Application Form printed in A4 size. This will be attached on the e-mail that you will be receiving.
  3. Original copy of Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Authenticated Birth Certificate on Security Paper with a photocopy. Married Females (who are using their spouse's last name) must also submit Original copy of PSA Authenticated Marriage Contract on Security Paper or Report of Marriage. Local Civil Registrar Copy may be required if PSA Birth Certificate is not clear or cannot be read. When I arrived at the DFA office, the people behind me were talking about PSA (previously NSO) and that the new passport requirement should be printed with the PSA logo. I had my old NSO Birth Certificate we processed year ago for my school requirement and I thought DFA won't accept it. I had to raise a question at one of the guards on duty and he said "it depends if the document is still clear and can be verified." I sighed in relief. I thought all the waiting will all be in vain.
  4. Valid I.D. with a photocopy. For the list of acceptable cards, click here.

If you are just about to make an appointment, click here. Just select the necessary information, choose your preferred branch, date and time slot. This step was the hardest for me. You have to make sure you follow DFA on social media accounts or check daily to see if new slots have opened up. You have to be quick if you see green dates because popular slots get taken in a matter of seconds. I even told my boyfriend he could pick anytime he wished as long as I get a slot. It's a good thing he was able to get the most convenient for me.

My appointment was at exactly 10:00 AM at SM Manila branch so as much as I would like to be 30 minutes before my scheduled time, I couldn't be. I arrived early that morning though and made sure I was near the entrance so when the gate opens, I can easily walk my way to the 5th floor, yes DFA's located on the 5th floor! The scenario was way different than expected because when SM reopens, all the people seem to push each other just so they could come in first. People nowadays...tsk. I had to stay calm so when I got upstairs, it was almost 10:15 A.M. We had to wait outside in line while a DFA personnel checks all of our requirements and confirmed appointments. Because I am short-legged, I ended up approximately the 50th in line so I thought I'm never going to make it out by exactly 11:00 A.M. which I didn't mind because I know DFA will accommodate everyone who were scheduled first.

Each step was very swift. Though this is my first time getting a passport, a lot said how they have to wait in line for hours without even knowing if they would make it to the last counter. We are lucky that DFA implemented this online appointment which I used to hate but now understood why they had to. After waiting in line outside for about 10 minutes, they now let us go inside. We fell in line at the information counter to have our documents checked and compiled and the personnel gave us each a survey sheet and a checklist.

We then proceed to the Passport Enrollmen Section where they scanned our documents and asked if we would like the regular (P950/15 business days) or expedited processing (P1,200/7 business days). Since I was no way in a hurry, I opted for the regular. I was then instructed to proceed to the cashier area to pay for the application fee. I was assisted almost right away. I wished to be corrected but I think if you made an appointment during weekends, you are suppose to pay for the expedited price at Bayad Centers or other acceptable mode of payments beforehand. This is a good thing because you can skip one process during your scheduled appointment.

I, then, proceed to the Encoding Section to process biometrics and photo I.D. There were about 5 counters so the process was real quick. I observed each of the personnel and they seem to be in good mood. It's almost the start of the day after all! I was done in a few minutes and I still have spare time to drop by the LBC counter because I opted to have my passport delivered. It cost me P150 (though I am not really sure). I was literally out the door by exactly 11:00 AM.

If you can, choose the earliest time possible so you get to maximize the alloted time for you. The process was very efficient and to think that passport validation lasts for 10 years, I would never be scared of reapplying for passport until then!

Dermaid Acne Oil Control Facial Cleanser Review

DermAid Acne Oil Control Facial Cleanser
Bought for: P159/75ml
Bought from: SM Store

I was doing my usual online shopping at one of my favorite e-commerce site when I spotted these drugstore product I laid my eyes on for the first time. I noticed that it has Sulfur on it and since I rarely get any adverse reaction from using such ingredient, I decided to take a plunge head first without consulting the internet. What's the use of being a blogger after all. Since I was breaking out badly too, I guarantee that this will be a good time to put something to a test.

Claims
DermAide Acne Oil-Control Facial Cleanser is an oil control facial cleanser that gently washes away dirt, oil and bacteria to help lessen acne breakouts. It is formulated with welirang and rosemary leaf extract that help dry acne without irritating your skin.
Packaging

The packaging looks very simple yet clinical that there's no wonder why I was hooked. It looks like it's something you have to trust. I also appreciate that it does not lack all the necessary information I always look for: claims and benefits, ingredient lists, caution, directions for use, expiry and manufacturing dates. That said, one bottle is good for 2 years which is pretty much a long shelf life for a drugstore product. Though, I don't think it would even take a month to empty one bottle because there's only 75ml of product to consume. I wouldn't mind because it's affordable and the slim size of the bottle is perfect for travel use. I also think that it is very convenient and hygienic to use because all you need to do is tap the labeled button slightly to open and press the other side to seal it back in place.

Texture, Scent and Ease of Application

As you can tell from the photo down below, the product has a runny consistency, I can barely take a picture of the formula without it dripping from my skin. The consistency is very similar to Cetaphil Oily Skin Cleanser--clear and less foamy when lathered. I prefer these types of cleansers over foamy ones because there are properties of the latter that somehow dry my skin, clog my pores and cause me sudden breakouts. I know because foam cleansers either just break me out or do completely nothing. This is what usually happens since time immemorial which is why I am more hopeful with glycerin-based cleansers like this.

This cleanser has Sulfur and such scent can be a little bothering for some. I've long endure it because almost all Sulfur-based products work for me. If I wasn't even a blogger and would stick to a particular skin care, I would pick something with Sulfur and Salicylic Acid on them. They sound pretty simple and cheap, but they are one of the best out there. Going back to what I was saying, the welirang scent isn't very distinct, after all, it's just fairly in the middle of the ingredient list. This isn't me saying that the overall scent of the product is good, it still reeks of chemicals but is so much more tolerable.

Performance

I like that the cleanser is very gentle on the skin, does not sting and lathers a bit when applied. It thoroughly cleanses the skin without over-drying it which is a plus. Considering it has Sulfur, I expected that it will be drying but I'm surprised that it somehow gives hydration to the skin once it rinses off. I have noticed that my oil lessened a bit whenever I wake up the first two times I used this product. My skin got used to it the following days that it seem to do nothing anymore in terms of controlling my sebaceous glands.

In all honesty, I do not find this cleanser to be so efficient and effective in drying out existing pimples but a week after I use it, I notice that I have been getting lesser and lesser bumps. The cleanser did not aggravate existing pimples I have and it seem to maintain the natural balance of my skin. True enough, this cleanser gets rid of all traces of makeup, oil and dirt revealing a plump and clearer-looking skin. I have nothing against this other than the fact that even after using it for weeks, I still haven't completely gotten rid of my whiteheads and tiny bumps all over my face caused mainly by stress.

Overall, I would say that this is still a good product to invest for. This is probably a maintenance cleanser I'd repurchase once my skin heals. For now, I'd just finish the 1/4 amount left in my stash and would switch back to a salicylic toner which helped me with my breakouts before. For those who have less textured skin and problems with their skin care, you might want to give DermAid Acne Oil Control Facial Cleanser a try! You can shop this online or visit department stores and drugstores nationwide.
